If your child is not breathing or swallowing correctly, it may be a myofunctional disorder. Children should breath though their nose and swallow correctly by resting their tongue in the palate (not in between the teeth) to allow for normal development of the jaw and teeth. Lips should be kept together and if your child struggles with this, it might be sign of mouth breathing and tongue thrusting. If the problem is identified at an appropriate age, treatment with a myofunctional appliance (e.g. Myobrace®) might be very beneficial.

The best is to schedule an appointment to determine if your child may benefit from myofunctional treatment.
